'Ballast Fire Pit' In late-19th-century Melbourne: large steel or iron plates used as ballast in English wooden ships were off-loaded when the ships arrived in Australia, then repurposed locally. In Melbourne, many of these plates were rolled into large storm-water or sewer pipes, especially during the big drainage works of the 1890s. We really enjoyed reimagining this large drain collar into a character filled Fire Pit for the company that dug it up. | Tread Sculptures
